Case Study: Shoe Leather Tannery—Portugal
The Problem
A Portuguese tannery which produces leather for shoemaking needed assistance with disposing of the waste it generated.
The EversTech Solution
The EversTech team conducted a very successful pilot test on the complete and total treatment of all wastes from the tannery. On completion of the pilot test, a full scale plant was built. The EversTech Process, based on a two-stage aerobic digestion with bio-augmentation, is the centerpiece of the system, with support from catalytic oxidation and physico-chemical treatment. The various sources of effluent and the average discharge analyses, together with the allowable discharge standard and the actual achieved in the pilot trial, are given in the following table.
Flow rate—125-150 m³/day (Info forthcoming)
EversTech operates and manages the treatment plant for a flat rate fee, plus a charge of 100 escudos (50 Esc) per m3 treated, based on 125 m3/day. The flow is measured and any adjustment required, based on quantity variation, is made every three months. In this way, the tannery owners know exactly what their costs and benefits will be. Because the plant is operated and managed by the team that designed it, the owners are assured that it is operated optimally, and the terms of the tannery's discharge license are always met.
